Home Office: TobyM

Courtesy TobyM, her home office. Notice that this set-up uses two of the Do-It-Yourself Editor's Desks.

Toby's Office

I actually have two editor's desks (so when I dismantle my office, I just fold them flat and stack one on top of the other): one is for the manuscript and sits right in front of me, of course; the other, which rests on a little table I've placed at right angles to the dining room table on my right (so all I have to do is swivel around in my chair to the right to face it), holds a big notebook I've compiled over the years of all the grammar and usage stuff I've learned (alphabetized under headings that are meaningful to me). It would hurt my neck to have to look down every time I consult this notebook, so I use a second editor's desk to hold it propped up for me at all times.

Here's Toby's Office!

Actually, on my left is yet another little table at right angles to the dining room table. On that I keep my dictionary and CMS. So, you see, I'm hemmed in on three sides when I sit down to work, and I can swivel my chair (and my attached body) around to face any one of three different desktops. On my desk top (aka the dining room table) is a rotating bookshelf (or whatever it's called) from Levenger.

Here's the office in action:
