FAQ for Freelance/eGroups Subscribers


Using the eGroups Files area

In the eGroups Files area, you can upload and download files so that other subscribers can access them.

Notice that the left sidebar always reflects the area that you're currently viewing. For this section, it will highlight Files.

A. Accessing the Files area

  1. Go to http://www.egroups.com. [Screenshot: Main eGroups screen, red arrows show options for logging in.]
  2. When the My Groups screen appears, click on the group Freelance on the list. [Screenshot: The My Groups screen. Freelance is the first group listed here.]
  3. When the screen for Freelance appears, click on Files on the left sidebar. [Screenshot: The Freelance screen. Files appears on the left sidebar.]

B. Uploading a file

  1. On the Freelance file screen, click on Add Folder. [Screenshot: The Freelance2 Files screen. The upper red arrow indicates the Add Folder option.]
  2. On the Add Folder screen, enter the name of the folder and click on the Create button. [Screenshot: The Add Folder screen; naming a folder and adding a description.]

  5. Enter a file description, and click on the Browse... button. [Screenshot: The The Add File screen. The cursor is on the Browse button.
  6. When the File Upload box pops up, locate and select the file on your computer's drive. Click Open. [Screenshot: The File Upload box; selecting a file to upload.]

C. Changing a filename or description

  1. Open the folder to see the file(s), and click on the Edit icon. [Screenshot: The In the File: Vickie directory, the cursor is on the Edit icon beside the Word file.]
  2. On the Edit File Attributes screen, make your changes to the File Name or the Description and click the Save Changes button. [Screenshot: The Edit File Attributes screen; the cursor is on the Save Changes button.]

D. Deleting a file or folder (directory)

  1. Beside the file or directory, click on the Delete icon. [Screenshot: The cursor is on the Delete icon beside the file folder.]
  2. On the Delete screen, click on the Delete Folder or Delete File button. [Screenshot: The Delete File screen; the cursor is on the Delete File button. (The Delete Folder screen looks the same.)]

E. Saving or opening a file

Opening a file

If you left click on a file link, you will open the file in the appropriate application (for example, Word97 will open for a Word97 file).

Saving a file to disk

If you right click on a file link, you can save the file directly to your hard drive without opening it first:

  • Netscape: Right-click on the filename to pull up the menu, and select Save Link As. [Screenshot]
  • Internet Explorer: Right-click on the filename to pull up the menu, and select Save Target As. [Screenshot]
