Welcome VAEA Golfers
The VAEA Golf League was formed sometime in
the early 70's with about 24 men teams and 10 women team playing at Walnut
Creek and Harts golf courses. After one or two seasons the teams were merged
into one league with 24 teams and played at Shady Hills Golf CourseThe 80's the league returned to Walnut Creek for a couple of years , but due to the lack of a bar and allowing beer on the course the league switched back to Shady Hills were it has remained. The league sponsored the Clifford Nordstrom (past director of the VA) Tournament. A two day event that included players from other VA Medical Centers in the region.
The 90's brought a slow decline of the league due to many excuses, employment cut backs, cost to play, etc. The league averaged about 16 teams through out the 90's until 2006 when the league dwindled to 10 teams.
2010 was the year of change, moving back to Walnut Creek and Club Run and gained three teams and two extra 9 holes to play. Our league scoring style changed to match play for teams and stroke play for individual matches. We are now looking forward to an even better 2011 season.
